The Schillerhöhle Cave

Weinland set key parts of his novel, set in the Stone Age, in and around the Schiller or Schillingshöhle, where his protagonists the Tulka tribe lived.

Visitors should note that there is no lighting in the Schillerhöhle and no hard-surfaced access path. The cave can be entered to up to 30 metres by sure-footed visitors; after this it curves and descends into a muddy pond. By this point at the latest, casual cavers should turn back.

Opening hours: The cave is closed from mid-November to mid-April to protect the resident bats.

How to get there: Take the footpath from Urach-Wittlingen to the Hohenwittlingen Castle ruins and to the cave on the northern slope of the spur.
