Wegbeschreibung
The mightiest and most beautiful beech trees (Buchen) in the Swabian Jura used to stand on the Buch hill, southeast of Bad Urach-Hengen, giving the spot it's name. Unfortunately, these mighty old trees had to be felled, however new ones were planted in their place. The Buch hiking car park, the starting point of our circular hiking trail, is located near this group of beech trees.
The first part of our route runs on an easily walkable concrete track, to the right of the path is the wooded slope of the Hundsloch, a forestation of the Fischburgtal, through which the Bad Urach-Seeburg – Bad Urach-Hengen road runs.
To the left of our path, the mountain peninsula of Buch stretches out with its agricultural areas. Where the concrete track path ends, a field path begins, which lies in loamy subsoil. It is therefore often swampy in wet weather and requiring good footwear in any weather. This field path leads into the Kesselberg forest and there it meets a hiking trail coming from the Fischburgtal, which is marked with a yellow triangle. We turn left into this path and come to the edge of the forest. After about 400 m, a wide forest path branches off to the right, it leads to the Känzele, a likely prehistoric rampart above the Brucktal.
The way there (approx. 350 m) is an interesting detour. If you want to avoid this, continue hiking along the edge of the forest and you will come to the tennis courts. Once we have reached this, we turn left again at the edge of the forest onto a wide road. Passing the Sportfreunde Hengen sports grounds and the Auf Buch forest, we return to the hiking car park and end our hike “around Buch”.
Ausrüstung
Sturdy shoes, hiking poles and sure-footedness are recommended for this tour.
Sicherheitshinweise
Our circular tours are not walking, but hiking trails. Sturdy shoes, hiking poles and sure-footedness are recommended for all tours, particularly after and during rainfall and in the winter months, the limestone rock and soil can be very slippery, especially on slopes. We also point out the presence of natural forest hazards. We ask you to exercise caution.
In an emergency, always dial the number 112. If necessary, please mention that the people involved in the accident are in inaccessible terrain, so that the Bad Urach mountain rescue service is also informed and there is no unnecessary loss of time during the rescue.
On the hiking signposts of our trails, you will find a plaque with the exact location number on it. The location number consists of the letters BU and a max. 4-digit number. Communicating this number to the control centre in an emergency, helps to provide assistance faster.
Please note the current safety instructions.
