Wegbeschreibung
Startpoint for this tour is the information boards at the train station level crossing (P&R car park).
The path begins behind the signs: it first leads in a zigzag direction uphill, partly over stone steps, to the Unterer Tiergartenbergweg.
We continue uphill through the forest to a wide forest path, which we turn left onto. We stay on the wide path and come to the Tiergartenberg forest park. At the edge of the forest park we can see the remains of the stone wall surrounding the former zoological garden.
We leave the forest park at its western edge and take a short access road to Parkstraße bei Stadt, Höhenfreibad Tiergartenberg, which we follow uphill to the left.
About 150 m after the right-hand bend, joint the Obere Tiergartenbergweg on the left. The path leads us further uphill through the forest and about 120 m after a left-hand bend, we leave Oberen Tiergartenbergweg to the right. A steep, narrow path now leads us in a zigzag uphill to the Northern Hanner Fels (707 m).
After the ascent, which mostly leads through dense beech forest, the view from the rocky cliffs is surprisingly extensive. The Hohenurach fortress ruins (692 m) seem almost within reach, separated only by the Seltbach valley. The city of Urach lies below us in the Erms valley, and opposite, the elongated ridge of the Eichhalde limits our view any further.
We leave the outlook point and continue hiking on a level forest path to the Mittlerer Hanner Fels.
The middle Hanner Fels (680 m) offers about the same view as the northern Hanner Fels. The Hanner Hütte (hut) is located behind the rock. From here our path continues to the East Hanner Fels (669 m), which offers what is probably the most comprehensive view of the city and its immediate surroundings.
From the rock we finally turn right, first follow the mountain path and then climb steeply down along the rock and zigzag further down to the Oberen Tiergartenbergweg. Following this path we walk to the right to the junction with the Hanner Steige. Directly at the crossing, we follow a hiking trail on the left, leading down into the valley. It quickly takes us to the Mittlerer Tiergartenbergweg and to the Alten Hanner Steige on the forest edge. Following the path which runs parallel to the road at the foot of the Tiergartenberg, leads back to our starting point at the train station.
Ausrüstung
Sturdy shoes, hiking poles and sure-footedness are recommended for this tour.
Sicherheitshinweise
Our circular tours are not walking, but hiking trails. Sturdy shoes, hiking poles and sure-footedness are recommended for all tours, particularly after and during rainfall and in the winter months, the limestone rock and soil can be very slippery, especially on slopes. We also point out the presence of natural forest hazards. We ask you to exercise caution.
In an emergency, always dial the number 112. If necessary, please mention that the people involved in the accident are in inaccessible terrain, so that the Bad Urach mountain rescue service is also informed and there is no unnecessary loss of time during the rescue.
On the hiking signposts of our trails, you will find a plaque with the exact location number on it. The location number consists of the letters BU and a max. 4-digit number. Communicating this number to the control centre in an emergency, helps to provide assistance faster.
Please note the current safety instructions.
