Wegbeschreibung
The first part of our hike takes us into the Elsach Valley, along Grabenstetter Straße and the cemetery grounds, where the ascent to the plateau behind the stone fountain begins.
The steep zigzag path that leads up the slope of the Wölfing soon leads to a wide forest path.
On this we hike to the right, slightly uphill. After about 150m of heavy breathing on this steep path, another narrow zigzag path begins on the left, which leads us even further uphill! Shortly before we reach the plateau, we are rewarded for the exertion of the ascent at the Wölfing vantage point with a particularly beautiful view of Bad Urach with its mountains and the Elsach Valley. The narrow Elsach and Ermstal valleys have always offered little agricultural land. For this reason, suitable valley slopes and areas inside the forests on the plateau were cleared in earlier times.
Such a clearing represents today's pasture area of Ulmer Eberstetten, which we reach after a short climb from the Wölfling vantage point. Our route now runs as a meadow path across a pasture area into the opposite short piece of forest and then continues on a field path. At the municipal sheep house we turn left. On a well-developed forest path, we hike first along the edge of the forest, then through the forest, past the Schmidhalde-Brünnele. After half an hour we have reached Pfäler Eberstetten. There the so-called Feldherrnhügel, a small elevation in the middle of the pasture, offers a spectacular panoramic view. In front of a shelter a bench invites you to linger and there is also an open grill for BBQing.
Behind the shelter our path turns left and leads through the meadows to the forest. This is where the Pfäler Steige begins, which takes us leisurely down into the Langen Grund, a side arm of the Elsach Valley. At the bottom of the valley, we follow the path to the left and hike around the head of the valley. From here we have another view of the Langen Grund.
As we continue on our way through the sparse high forest, we keep seeing the red roofs of the houses in the Elsachsiedlung district. We come to the zigzag path that we already know from the beginning of our hike. It finally leads us downhill to the Geirenbad, where we end our hike.
Ausrüstung
Sturdy shoes, hiking poles and sure-footedness are recommended for this tour.
Sicherheitshinweise
Our circular tours are not walking, but hiking trails. Sturdy shoes, hiking poles and sure-footedness are recommended for all tours, particularly after and during rainfall and in the winter months, the limestone rock and soil can be very slippery, especially on slopes. We also point out the presence of natural forest hazards. We ask you to exercise caution.
In an emergency, always dial the number 112. If necessary, please mention that the people involved in the accident are in inaccessible terrain, so that the Bad Urach mountain rescue service is also informed and there is no unnecessary loss of time during the rescue.
On the hiking signposts of our trails, you will find a plaque with the exact location number on it. The location number consists of the letters BU and a max. 4-digit number. Communicating this number to the control centre in an emergency, helps to provide assistance faster.
Please note the current safety instructions.
