Wegbeschreibung
Our hike starts at the car park (P15) of the municipal festival hall, we turn right into Neuffenerstraße, crossing the Elsach river and a short time later turn right into the Mahlesteig. At the edge of the forest, a narrow path leads us uphill to a forest path, which we follow to the right. Shortly thereafter we come to a bend where the actual circular route starts and we can decide whether we want to hike the tour to the left or to the right. We climb a little further and follow the wide forest path halfway to the left, which leads further and further into the woods. We leave the town of Bad Urach behind us and enjoy the tranquility of the forest on the spacious forest path that meanders through the forest. Gradually the path leads downhill again and we reach the Kaltental, through which our hiking route now continues. The name points to the Celts, the first inhabitants of the Middle Swabian Jura.
At the bend in our path is the Kaltentalhäuschen, a small half-timbered house on a stone substructure. After about 200 m we can already see the water surface of the Kaltentalweiher. Behind it is a smaller pond through which the Kaltenbach flows to the large pond. At the level of the Brunnenstube we cross the valley and take the path that leads diagonally opposite into the forest. The further path leads us up to a short detour to the imposing Lauereckfels (651m), which is worth the effort. A steep zigzag path takes you back down to the valley. At the end of the valley we leave the Kohlteichweiher, a small man-made lake that was created in 1973 by the forestry administration, on our right and hike straight ahead through the Lenninger valley. A small stream with water from the Hannerfels spring runs through the horse pastures to the left of the path. Passing the buildings of a private horse farm, we come to a crossroads at the mountain nose of the Fuchsberg. There we turn right and cross the foot of the Kaltental again. After going through forest and meadows we arrive at thr starting point of the round tour. From there we turn left and follow the path from the beginning back to Bad Urach and the car park (P15).
Ausrüstung
Sturdy shoes, hiking poles and sure-footedness are recommended for this tour.
Sicherheitshinweise
Our circular tours are not walking, but hiking trails. Sturdy shoes, hiking poles and sure-footedness are recommended for all tours, particularly after and during rainfall and in the winter months, the limestone rock and soil can be very slippery, especially on slopes. We also point out the presence of natural forest hazards. We ask you to exercise caution.
In an emergency, always dial the number 112. If necessary, please mention that the people involved in the accident are in inaccessible terrain, so that the Bad Urach mountain rescue service is also informed and there is no unnecessary loss of time during the rescue.
On the hiking signposts of our trails, you will find a plaque with the exact location number on it. The location number consists of the letters BU and a max. 4-digit number. Communicating this number to the control centre in an emergency, helps to provide assistance faster.
