Wegbeschreibung
The tour start point beginns with stunning view of the meadows, fields and forests around Bad Urach-Wittlingen, on the opposite slope, meadow orchards stretch to the edge of the Hockenloch forest. On the opposite valley, the sports field and the road to Bad Urach-Seeburg in the Ermstal valley runs to the left of it. Even further to the left we see the now wooded Kitzenmahd and behind it in the distance, the former Münsingen military training area. On the Fischburgstraße we first walk in the direction of Bad Urach-Wittlingen and then turn right into the street Am Zimmerplatz, this leads us to Hengener Straße and we turn left into this. From here, diagonally opposite, a field road branches off to the right, which runs between two large field barns. Soon we see a high antenna mast on the left, which we will circumnavigate in a wide arc in the course of our tour. On the highest elevation of the Mäuerlen (762 m) there is a bench, to sit and rest and enjoy the great panoramic view over the Uracher Alb and the three Bad Urach districts of Hengen, Sirchingen and Wittlingen. To the right of our path you can see the village of Hengen and behind it is the highest peak in the Middle Alb, the Römerstein with its tower (874 m). To the right of Hengen lies the Linseberg (754 m) and then, between the forest districts of Leimgrube and Kitzenmahd, the Bittental. The terrain of the former Münsingen military training area, which rises to almost 800 m, can be seen in the distance above the forest. A new view also opens up to the left, to the west. To the left of the antenna mast, on the plateau above the Erms Valley, the Bad Urach district of Sirchingen can be seen in its entirety, and further to the left is the unwooded area of the Perlenberg (776 m). To the right of the antenna mast, above the Bickelhausen forest, are the pastures of the St. Johanner Fohlenhof. Further to the right is the wooded Uracher Galgenberg (827 m) with the Yellow Rock (733 m) and the Sonnenfels (777 m). In front of us above the forest lies the village of Hülben (713 m). If we continue our tour, we see the Erlach (778m) in front of us with the elevated tank that supplies Bad Urach-Hengen with water. We always walk straight ahead towards this and turn left at the elevated tank at the crossroads. Above the forest accross the valley we see the Hohenurach fortress ruins (692 m).
We walk towards the forest and turn left again a few meters behind the forest entrance. Between high beeches on a shady forest path, our tour leads back to the fields. Soon we reach a crossing and cross it. Now we hike over the volcanic vent Winkelstein. On the outskirts of Bad Urach-Wittlingen we go steeply downhill into the small town and turn left into Fischburgstrasse. Passing the cemetery and Fischburgstraße leads back to the commercial area and thus to the starting point of our tour.
Ausrüstung
Sturdy shoes, hiking poles and sure-footedness are recommended for this tour.
Sicherheitshinweise
Our circular tours are not walking, but hiking trails. Sturdy shoes, hiking poles and sure-footedness are recommended for all tours, particularly after and during rainfall and in the winter months, the limestone rock and soil can be very slippery, especially on slopes. We also point out the presence of natural forest hazards. We ask you to exercise caution.
In an emergency, always dial the number 112. If necessary, please mention that the people involved in the accident are in inaccessible terrain, so that the Bad Urach mountain rescue service is also informed and there is no unnecessary loss of time during the rescue.
On the hiking signposts of our trails, you will find a plaque with the exact location number on it. The location number consists of the letters BU and a max. 4-digit number. Communicating this number to the control centre in an emergency, helps to provide assistance faster.
