The Swabian Albverein is one of the oldest alpine walking associations in Germany and sets the standard for trails in the field of long-distance footpaths. The classic among these routes is the Swabian Alb Nordrandweg (HW1), which is also marketed as Albsteig. The trail has been certified by the German Hiking Association as a "Quality trail."
The Albsteig covers a good 350 kilometers from Donauwörth to Tuttlingen. In 2009 it was awarded certification as a "Quality Trail” by the German Hiking Association and in 2012 the route was inducted into the illustrious circle: "Top Trails of Germany".
Over a total of 15 stages you hike along often picturesque paths with fascinating perspectives and come to places and locations reserved only for walkers. Here everyone can feel the specialness of nature and enjoy the vastness of the Swabian Alb.
For those who only have time for a day tour, it’s possible to do a single section of the Albsteig. Bad Urach can be a destination or starting point of Stage 8 of the tour: Owen to Bad Urach, or Stage 9: Bad Urach to Stahleck, two tours which we highly recommend.
